Love this framework. I use a pomodoro timer on my laptop while I write. I recently discovered one that will block you from access to things like YouTube while you are in a work block.

Thank you for sharing this article! One of the things I enjoyed most about Focus by Johann Hari is how he intentionally avoids simple solutions to such a complex, systemic problem. I’m curious about your thoughts of Haidt’s book as you read.

I put it aside for now. One because I was borrowing it from the library, two because I read this article and felt dissuaded to continue, and three there are so many other things I’m reading at the moment. I am eager to read Focus now though.

Another great post, Adrian. I'm doing this tomorrow and having my students place their goals in their digital portfolios. Thanks for reminding me about this. I'd seen John's post on this in the past, but I'd forgotten about it.

Also, I noted you'd written about Alive and Dead time. I first came across that idea a couple of years ago in an e-mail where Sahil Bloom was quoting Ryan Holiday. When I teach our 10th grade Carpe Diem unit, I focus it around three key concepts: Time, Choice, and Identity. When I saw Sahil Bloom's post, and found the charts that went with it (both can be found in this folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1KyuHS5owJoXWsDD1hU9dXkLvoIo5La89?usp=sharing ), I used them with students and had them pour over the charts and compare the findings to the Carpe Diem interpretations we'd been reading and viewing. I thought you might enjoy the charts (again, in the linked folder) as a way to add a visual to the ideas.

Tricia, I do have students assess their own intentions using SLIME. I’ll probably post something once we return from break showing some student examples.
